The origin
The idea came from a frustration most fragrance lovers know intimately. Buying a 70 ml bottle of Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait, or any niche composition above 250 euros, is a leap of faith. The boutique allows a wrist test. Magazines describe the notes. Online reviews argue. And still, you commit two weeks of food budget to a 100 ml object you have never lived with.
We made that gamble more than once. Sometimes the bottle worked. Often it sat on a shelf, half-finished, a quiet reminder that fragrance compatibility cannot be predicted in a department store under fluorescent light.
There had to be a way to live with a fragrance for two weeks before deciding to own it.
The craft
VESTIGIUM was built around a discipline where micro-precision is not optional. Pipetting at the millilitre, conditioning under controlled humidity, sealing vessels under inert atmosphere: these are not hobbyist methods, they are clinical reflexes. Applied to fragrance, they translate to decants that smell identical to the source bottle, hold for years, and arrive sealed.
Every VESTIGIUM decant is conditioned by hand, in a dedicated room, away from light and heat. Atomisers are medical-grade glass with metal valves, not the plastic vials some sellers ship. The opening date and source lot are documented per batch.
2 ml to discover. 5 ml to understand. 10 ml to adopt, and live with.
The selection
VESTIGIUM does not aim to be the largest catalogue. It aims to be the most coherent. Fourteen houses, chosen because each does something better than the rest: Louis Vuitton for travel imagination, Kurkdjian and Dior for French restraint, Tom Ford for bold statement, Byredo for Scandinavian quiet, Xerjoff for Italian opulence, Parfums de Marly for royal sophistication, Amouage for ceremonial density, Stéphane Humbert Lucas for theatre, Khalil T. for contemporary niche, Initio Parfums Privés for addictive masculines, Maison Crivelli for bold modern singularity, Mancera for oriental generosity, and Montale for the heritage of Parisian oud.
The catalogue grows by invitation only: when a composition justifies inclusion, never when a trend demands it. There is no commercial pressure here. Just considered choices, one at a time.
The promise
Three things, kept simple.
Authentic. Every decant is sourced from a bottle purchased through an authorised reseller in France. Invoices are documented.
Considered. Each fragrance comes with an editorial take, not marketing copy. Honest assessment of what it is, who it serves, when to wear it.
Reversible. Fourteen days to change your mind on sealed decants. Direct contact for anything more nuanced.
